The Mets announced that left-handed relief pitcher Jack Leathersich was optioned down to minor league camp.

Leathersich was among the handful of candidates in camp all vying to fill the lefty relief void created when the Mets lost Josh Edgin to Tommy John surgery.

In eight relief appearances this spring, Leathersich posted a 9.64 ERA in 4.2 innings pitched, striking out four while walking five batters.

That now leaves Sean Gilmartin, Scott Rice, Dario Alvarez and Duane Below as the last four lefty relievers in camp.

A team source told Mike Puma of the New York Post that it’s very unlikely the Mets add another lefthanded reliever before opening day.

Earlier today we learned the Mets had no interest in Joe Beimel and that interest in Orioles lefty Brian Matusz was being overstated and it never got past the Mets scouting him.
