The Mets offense has been scorching hot the last five games (four days) as they have scored 30 runs. The biggest reason for that might have to with their first inning success.

Seven of those runs have come in the first inning alone in that span.

One reason for the Mets first inning success could very well be the presence of Brandon Nimmo at the top of the order, as he has scored the team’s first run three times in that span.

The outfielder has been red-hot this week, as he has hit .308/.419/.731 with two homers and five RBI in his last seven games.

For the year, his production has been great as well with a .271/.422/.533 slash line with five homers and nine RBI, which provides an on-base machine at the top-of-the-order.

Nimmo has provided a spark at the top of the lineup that has allowed run producers like Michael Conforto, Asdrubal Cabrera, Devin Mesoraco, and even Jose Bautista to take advantage of.

Conforto, in particular, has been on fire in his last seven games, hitting .333/.455/.593 with two homers and two RBI to raise his season average to .242 while allowing his home run and RBI total to rise to six and 15, respectively.

Cabrera has been great in the last seven days too. He has a .345 average with three home runs and seven RBI in that span which has raised his season average to .315.

Mesoraco, meanwhile, has driven in two of the team’s seven first-inning runs with an RBI single and bases-loaded walk. In 16 games since the team acquired the 29-year old, Mesoraco has hit .240/.353/.580 with five homers and ten RBI. For a position that was a barren-wasteland offensively until the team acquired him, a new number five hitter certainly makes a difference.

Bautista has also proven to be a great addition to the team so far, as he is 6-for-15 with the club to go along with two RBI and five walks. For as long as he keeps producing like that, Mickey Callaway will continue to put him in the middle of the order.

So, with the Mets top half of the order producing, it is no surprise that the team has been scoring runs early and taking early leads. Now, they just need to find a way to hold onto them.
