The quiet offseason continues on, however, some small New York Mets related tidbits were released on Sunday. First off, it is being reported that Ronny Mauricio has been cleared and will join the Tigres del Licey of the Dominican Winter League soon. Additionally, the Mets reportedly signed right-handed pitcher Carlos Guzman to a minor league deal.

In 2023, Mauricio once again lit it up in Triple-A, slashing .292/.346/.506 with 23 home runs and 71 RBIs. He was then called up to the big leagues and spent the rest of the season with the Mets, posting a .643 OPS to go along with two home runs. After a hot start with the team, he slowed up and ended up struggling mightily.

Mauricio will now participate in the Dominican Winter League for the fourth-straight year. Last season in the Dominican Winter League, he posted an .803 OPS to go along with five home runs and 31 RBIs across only 188 at-bats. His performance was so strong, he was named MVP. He will get a chance to defend that crown this winter.

New York also reportedly signed pitcher Carlos Guzman to a minor league deal. Guzman, 25 years old, is right handed  and split time between three different levels in the minor league system this past season. In total, he threw 86 2/3 innings, starting only once, posting an ERA of 4.67. He struck out 93 batters and walked a staggering 48. A majority of his season was spent in Double-A, where he posted a 4.86 ERA across 76 innings.

Guzman was a starter prior to the 2023 season before being converted to a reliever. He has also been pitching in the Venezuelan Winter League, as a reliever, where he has posted a 2.60 ERA across 17 1/3 innings. The right-handed thrower owns a fastball, slider, and changeup. His fastball sits in the mid-90 mph range.
