As reported in the Buffalo News, the Buffalo Bisons have called a press conference for Monday morning in Dunn Tire Park to officially announce the New York Mets will be their new parent club next season.

“This is great news for Buffalo sports fans. The Mets and Bisons are a natural marriage, and one that I believe will last a very long time. I encouraged the Mets to affiliate in New York State and I’m glad they did,” said Sen. Charles E. Schumer, D-N.Y.

The Bisons announced that team officials, including owners Bob and Mindy Rich, will be on hand with officials from the new parent club for the 10:30 a.m. announcement in Pettibones Grille, the ballpark’s restaurant. Mets Chief Executive Officer Jeff Wilpon and General Manager Omar Minaya will be on hand for Monday’s ceremonies.

MetsBlog had posted on several occasions last week that the Mets would be moving their Triple-A affiliate from New Orleans to Syracuse, so this comes as a surprise.

The partnership with the Mets marks the first time Buffalo has been with a National League affiliate since the Pittsburgh Pirates left in 1994.

Good job by Senator Schumer on pushing this through. I think it’s great that the Mets have one of their Single-A affiliates, and their Double-A and Triple-A affiliates all in New York.
