The Mets climbed back into first place after a 9-5 victory over the much maligned Braves. Oh, and that one team in Philadelphia got walloped by the Marlins (Yay Marlins!) Welcome to another installment of Hot or Not. I’m hoping the Mets can carry this column into the post season.

Daniel Murphy and Nick Evans got key hits in last night’s victory. Earlier in the week, they had to go through the airport in nothing less than a Speedo a la Michael Phelps. Who says we don’t have a farm system? Johan Santana has also stepped up in huge situations for us. He pitches clutch, even though his bullpen may not. Jose Reyes is back to being the catalyst he is. And it shows because we’re back in first.

As good as the Mets bullpen was last week, they’re that bad and more this week. Eight pitchers were needed in Wednesday’s victory. Aaron Heilman continues to make his case for not wearing a Mets uniform next year. I’m wondering why Jerry signed Al Reyes if he was never going to use him. Oh well, one less Reyes on the team. It really stinks that Argenis Reyes isn’t hitting. Anybody is better than Luis Castillo at second.

Next week brings us the final regular season homestand at our beloved Shea. Hopefully, the old girl lives to see October, unlike her crosstown rivals. LGM.
