The Mets full season affiliates have nearly a full week in the books. So far, we have seen the upper level affiliates faring better in the win-loss column. Regardless of each team’s record, we have seen a number of impressive and noteworthy performances from Mets minor leaguers to open the 2019 season:

Syracuse Mets (4-1)

After losing their home opener, Syracuse has won four straight with members of the 2018 Mets pitching staff (Corey Oswalt, Jacob Rhame, Paul Sewald, and Chris Flexen) getting a win.

Syracuse isn’t just relying on pitchers who have played in Queens to bring home the win, they’re also relying on infielders too. Specifically, Dilson Herrera had a big first week of the season. So far this year, Herrera is 7-for-11 with three doubles, a homer, five RBI, and a walk.

With respect to Tim Tebow, he was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI in the second game of the season:

Binghamton Rumble Ponies (2-2)

The Rumble Ponies have had some noteworthy developments over the first week of the season including Will Toffey hitting a home run after having offseason shoulder surgery.

Perhaps the biggest development was Anthony Kay‘s Opening Day start. After impressing during Spring Training, he allowed just one earned over 4.2 innings before being removed for pitch count (75 pitches) reasons.

Kay not only struck out four batters, but he would also field his position extraordinarily well.

So far in his professional career, Kay has the look and mentality of a pitcher who will do whatever he needs to do to go out and beat you.

St. Lucie Mets (2-3)

St. Lucie found themselves involved in four tight low scoring games over the first week of the season. Finally, after losing three straight to open the season, St, Lucie would break out with a win with Kyle Wilson throwing 5.2 scoreless and Quinn Brodey and Matt Winaker driving in two of St. Lucile’s three runs scored.

Even with the three losses to open the season, there would be some impressive performances. Top among them was Tony Dibrell‘s start.

A year after leading the South Atlantic League in strikeouts, Dibrell would strike out six in his four innings pitched. Overall, in Dibrell’s professional career, he’s shown the ability to rack up strikeouts with a 10.5 K/9 since playing for Brooklyn in 2017.

Columbia Fireflies (2-3)

Columbia has not just a teenage laden team, but also some of the more exciting prospects in the Mets system. Of that group of players, the youngest and highest rated prospect, Ronny Mauricio, has so far been the top producing player on the Fireflies roster.

So far this season, Mauricio is 7-for-20 with two runs and an RBI and a walk. As shown by his going opposite field for the RBI, he’s hitting well beyond the years of a player who not only turned 18 last week, but also one who is the second youngest in the South-Atlantic League.

That puts him slightly ahead of teammate Simeon Woods Richardson, who struck out four over 1.2 innings pitched in his Opening Day start. For his part, Woods Richardson is the fifth youngest in the league.
