Syracuse already lost one of its four star prospects as catcher Francisco Álvarez was promoted to replace the injured Omar Narváez just hit the injured list with a calf strain. Additionally, Brett Baty is day-to-day with a thumb injury, leaving just Ronny Mauricio and Mark Vientos as the remaining representatives of the big four in Thursday’s matchup.

 AAA: Syracuse (3-3) 6, Rochester (1-4) 1 Box Score

Mauricio has continued his hot start and will likely be the next man up if a Mets infielder goes down following his strong spring showing. The switch-hitting shortstop has three home runs in his last two games and five extra-base hits on the year. Mauricio made this fine defensive play, but also had a throwing error in the game.

Vientos, playing third base for the second straight game, hit his home run at 110.8 mph and now has five batted balls of at least 110 mph.

Outfielder Tanner Murphy went with a double and run scored in his Triple-A debut.

Tony Dibrell had a nice bounce back outing after a rough opening outing, setting the pace for the game, and allowing the lone run for the Red Wings in five innings.

Double-A: Portland Sea Dogs (1-0) 7, Binghamton Rumble Ponies (0-1) 5

Box Score

  • 3B Luke Ritter, 1-for-3, HR (1), RBI (1), BB .333/.500/1.833
  • RF Matt Rudick, 1-for-3, HR (1), 4 RBI (4) .333/.33/1.666

Luke Ritter blasted the first home run of the Rumble Ponies’ season and Matt Rudick added on in the seventh inning with a grand slam, bringing the game within striking distance. Unfortunately, those lone two hits on the day for Binghamton weren’t enough to bring them back from the 6-0 deficit they faced after the fourth inning. They faced a tough starting pitcher on an MLB rehab assignment in Garrett Whitlock.

First baseman JT Schwartz walked twice and scored a run in his Double-A debut.

  • RHP Troy Miller (7.36 ERA) 3.2 IP, 3 ER, 3 BB, 4 K
  • RHP Manny Alvarez (0.00 ERA) 1 IP, 0 H, 0 BB, 1 K
  • RHP Dylan Hall (0.00 ERA) 1 IP, 1 H, 0 BB, 2 K

Troy Miller made his first start since the 2021 season after recovering from Tommy John surgery last year. He struggled early on, nearly getting bounced for hitting his pitch count limit in the first inning but managed to make it through a decent chunk of the game given the early woes.

Manny Alvarez had a great first outing of the season and didn’t issue a walk which was the main issue last year for the flame thrower. Dylan Hall had an exceptional Binghamton season debut too, his first time back in Double-A since a pair of spot starts in 2021.

For the first time in the 2023 season, all four of the Mets affiliates will be in action today, and make sure you check out MetsMinors.net for all the coverage.
