The Binghamton Rumble Ponies entered the bottom of the seventh inning down 6-0 on Sunday afternoon. Ronny Mauricio got the offense going with a single as the second batter of the inning. He would pick up another RBI single just an inning later, eventually coming home on the Carlos Cortes three-run homer that completed the 7-6 comeback.

AAA: Rochester Red Wings (40-32) 2, Syracuse Mets (28-43) 1  Box Score

The Mets were stymied on offense by former Met Logan Verrett on Sunday; they were held to just three singles in the game. Blankenhorn extended his hitting streak to eight games and drove in the team’s lone run of the game when he singled to left field in the first inning. Vientos was ejected from the game after striking out in the sixth inning. He is hitless in his last 10 at bats.

Szapucki was solid in Sunday’s start, as he came one strikeout shy of his season high of nine strikeouts and gave up two runs over four innings, the second of which coming on a balk. Since his ill-fated major-league start in San Francisco, Szapucki has a 4.09 ERA and a 29:12 K:BB ratio over 22 innings pitched. Holderman looked as good as ever in his first rehab start since leaving his June 7 appearance with a shoulder impingement. He needed just 14 pitches to strike out two batters in a perfect innings. Orze has a 2.45 ERA and a 14:1 K:BB ratio over 11 June innings.

AA: Binghamton Rumble Ponies (28-41) 7, Fightin Phils (29-40) 6  Box Score

The Rumble Ponies entered the bottom of the seventh inning down 6-0, their offense looking lifeless. Cortes got the team on the board with a single that inning and would put them permanently in the lead with a three-run blast just an inning later. Cortes got off to a dreadful start this season, but he has shown some signs of life in recent weeks: he is hitting .283/.368/.467 over his last 17 games. Mauricio had his second straight multi-hit game and is hitting .250/.292/.534 in June. After cutting down on his strikeouts early in the month, however, he now has struck out 20 times in his last 49 plate appearances. Top prospects Brett Baty and Francisco Álvarez were both hitless in this game, although Baty did walk twice and score two runs.

Butto had one of his worst starts on the season, as he gave up a season-high seven hits and did not record a single strikeout for the first time since a two-inning start in August, 2019. His four runs allowed were also one shy of his season high. After giving up nine runs in his last two starts, Butto’s ERA has jumped from 3.40 to 4.35. Yamamoto has worked exclusively as a reliever during his rehab stint and has had some success in that role, as evidenced by his 11.88 K/9 this season.

A+: Brooklyn Cyclones (33-36) 3, Jersey Shore BlueClaws (25-44) 2  Box Score

With only six hits in Sunday’s game, the Cyclones did not have a ton of offense, but clutch two-out hits by O’Neill and Gaddis brought home runs in the first and ninth innings, the latter being a walk-off hit. The Cyclones also added a run on a third-inning wild pitch. This was just Palmer’s sixth start of the season at third base.

Moreno has allowed two runs or less in all but two of his 13 appearances this season, and, while his ERA in four appearances with Brooklyn is quite high, his overall 3.40 ERA for the season remains quite good. Hardy’s ERA has been driven up by a .364 BABIP, but his peripheral stats (a 14:2 K:BB ratio in 9 2/3 innings with Brooklyn and zero home runs allowed across two levels this year) show just how much of a breakout year he has been having. With a 7.92 K/9 this season, Seymour doesn’t strike out tons of batters, but he has been quite successful at limiting run scoring both as a starter and as a reliever.

A: Palm Beach Cardinals (33-34) 4, St. Lucie Mets (40-28) 1  Box Score

With just six hits, all of which were singles, and 12 strikeouts for the afternoon, it is little surprise that the Mets could push across just the one run. They had only four plate appearances with runners in scoring position all game. After being a near-guarantee for a couple of hits a game early in the season, Ramirez has just three hits – all singles – in his last 41 at bats. De Los Santos is now up to 43 steals this season, a total which ranks third in the entire minor leagues. Lin started the season injured and returned to the injured list after just 10 games with Syracuse; he started his second rehab stint with St. Lucie on Sunday.

Hamel was dominant in his two innings of work on Sunday, striking out five of the seven batters he faced. A hit batter was the lone blemish on his line. Although his fastball only topped out at 93.6, his pitches flashed the high spin rate that made Hamel a top pitching prospect in the organization: his four-seamer averaged 2450 RPM, and his slider (which he threw 46% of the time and which had a 67% whiff rate) averaged 2800 RPM.
