Box Score

Despite putting up seven runs in seven innings, the FCL Mets fell to the FCL Astros on opening day of the Florida Complex League on Monday afternoon. Seven Mets managed to get at least a hit in the opener, including Omar De Los Santos and Cesar Berbesi with two each.

Berbesi highlighted the Mets’ performance with an RBI-triple in the third to help put up three runs in the frame. The shortstop also accounted for two of the Mets’ three extra-base hits in the game. Despite this, the Mets only hit 4-for-14 with runners in scoring position, contributing to the loss.

Starter Yeily Encarnacion had a tough day on the mound as he allowed seven runs and walked six batters in four innings in his FCL Debut. Despite the 13 runs allowed by the team’s pitching staff, reliever Daniel Juarez had nice performances as he allowed no runs, no hits and struck out three in 1.2 innings pitched.

Syracuse, Binghamton, Brooklyn and St. Lucie did not play on Monday.
