Binghamton starter Blade Tidwell and Brooklyn shortstop Jett Williams were our Minor League Players of the Night. Right-hander Jordany Ventura pitched his second straight gem for the Cyclones as well.

Triple-A

Scranton Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (51-56) 9, Syracuse Mets (45-63) 5

BOX SCORE

As Mauricio learns a new position, he picked up another multi-hit game on Wednesday. He has picked up a hit in five straight games and in six of the last seven games he’s played in this month. He did have a throwing error in his second game at third base. The Mets got a solo home run from Perez in the fourth and from Cortes in the ninth. However, the offense went 1-for-17 with runners in scoring position and they left 11 on base.

  • RHP David Griffin (7.39 ERA): 5 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 4 BB, 5 K (45 of 83 pitches for strikes)
  • RHP Sam Coonrod (0-1, 10.38): 1/3 IP, 5 R (4 ER), 3 H, 2 BB, K
  • RHP Sean Reid-Foley (5.40): 1 IP, 3 ER, 2 H, BB, K

Despite the four walks, Griffin was able to hold the RailRiders to one run, which came on a Franchy Cordero RBI single in the first. The big damage for Scranton came in the later innings when they scored five in the seventh against Coonrod and a three-run home run off of Reid-Foley in the eighth.

During this game, Jeff Brigham was ejected before entering the game in the bottom of the seventh due to having a sticky substance. He is the third pitcher on the Triple-A squad to get ejected this season.

Double-A

Binghamton Rumble Ponies (53-50) 4, Somerset Patriots (60-42) 2

BOX SCORE

The Rumble Ponies got on the board in the top of the fourth when Jackson hit a two-run home run for his first home run since joining the Mets organization at the trade line.

The other two runs that were scored came in the fifth when Gil hit a two-run home run for his second at the Double-A level this year. In fact, all six runs that were scored in the game came via the home run.

  • RHP Blade Tidwell (1-1, 3.86): 7 2/3 IP, 2 ER, 6 H, 7 K, WP, HBP (64 of 90 pitches for strikes)
  • RHP Trey McLoughlin (2.28, 2nd save): 2/3 IP, 2 BB, WP

In his second start at Double-A, Tidwell was able to pitch into the eighth inning, with the only mistakes he made were a pair of solo home runs. The seven strikeouts he had was the most he’s recorded in an outing since July 6 (five starts ago). It was also the third time he did not have a walk in an outing this year (first time since June 30). He retired eight straight batters from the 6th-8th innings until a Jasson Dominguez double in the eighth led to him being removed from the game.

High-A

Brooklyn Cyclones (52-51) 5, Aberdeen IronBirds (49-52) 3

BOX SCORE

The only extra-base hits from the Cyclones on Wednesday came from the leadoff hitter. Williams started the bottom of the first with his first home run as a member of the Cyclones. He would later drive in another run via a double in the fourth.

Even though Clifford did not drive in a run, he had his second multi-hit game in six games as a member of the Mets organization. Pregent’s single in the eighth was the first hit the 10th Round pick in this year’s draft had at the High-A level.

  • RHP Jordany Ventura (3-0, 2.73): 6 2/3 IP, 1 ER, 1 H, 2 BB, 10 K (66 of 101 pitches for strikes)
  • RHP Paul Gervase (1.85): 1/3 IP, 2 ER, 1 H, 2 BB, K, WP
  • LHP Eli Ankeney (1.99, 3rd save): 2 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, K

Like Tidwell, Ventura had a career day on the mound. He struck out a career-high ten batters in the win After allowing a double to the first batter of the day, Ventura did not allow a hit the rest of the game. The 23-year-old has 19 strikeouts in 14 innings pitched this month as he has pitched at least into the seventh inning in both outings.

Low-A

Palm Beach Cardinals (54-47) 5, St. Lucie Mets (35-68) 4 (8 Innings)

BOX SCORE

The Mets were unable to escape going down 3-0 before they even got to bat, but they did get a couple of home runs as Paz hit a two-run home run in the fifth and Lara had a solo home run in the sixth. The 11th home run by Lara is the most on the team and tied for the ninth-most in the Florida State League this year.

  • RHP Douglas Orellana (3-4, 4.77): 2/3 IP, 3 ER, 3 H, BB, K, 2 HBP (20 of 37 pitches for strikes)
  • RHP Edwin Uceta (0.00): 1 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, K

It was a rough first inning for Orellana as he failed to complete the frame as he hit two batters, and allowed three singles before being removed from the game. Uceta continued his rehab assignment with a 1-2-3 fourth inning (12 of 15 pitches for strikes).

Florida Complex League

FCL Mets (26-16) 6, FCL Astros (20-23) 3

BOX SCORE

The FCL Mets picked up an early 4-0 lead in this game thanks to an RBI double by Hernandez in the first and a three-run home run by Dariel Gomez in the bottom of the third. Hernandez has drawn a walk in three straight games. As for Clark, the 20th Round pick in this year’s draft drove in his first run as a Met with a sacrifice fly in the eighth.

Ferrer has not gone past four innings in a start this year, but the 19-year-old right-hander was able to keep the Astros from getting a hit and recovered nicely from his rough start on August 2 (2 2/3 IP, 5 ER, 6 H). Gomez ended up getting the final eight outs as the 20-year-old has not allowed a run in four straight appearances.
