Francisco Alvarez sprained the UCL in his right thumb last month and suffered a small fracture in his left pinky finger when he was hit by a pitch last week. No matter. He hit a 405-foot grand slam Wednesday and caught a whole game for the second straight night (though he did allow a passed ball) in Triple-A Syracuse’s 10-2 win over Buffalo. The Mets are hopeful he can return to the big leagues soon.
