Sacremento River Cats (12-13) 5, Las Vegas 51s (10-16) 1 Box Score

P.J. Conlon started the game for the 51s, but struggled in the fourth inning as he allowed a three-run homer to outfielder Eury Perez to extend the River Cats lead to 4-0, which ended up being a decisive blow for the team. The bullpen, nonetheless looked solid, but Baumann allowed an unearned run to cross the plate in the eighth inning.

The team managed nine hits throughout the game with six of those, as can be seen above, coming from Smith, Guillorme, and Brentz. The other members of the squad to record hits were Ty Kelly, Colton Plaia, and Gavin Cecchini. The team’s only run was scored on an RBI single from Guillorme in the sixth inning that scored Dominic Smith.

Binghamton Rumble Ponies (12-10) 7, Akron Rubber Ducks (13-11) 6 Box Score

Crismatt struggled for the first time this season. The “crafty” righty had been dominant but showed signs of slowing down for the first time yesterday. Bautista has struggled since returning from the Majors but it is entirely possible that he is trying some new things that he learned while working with the major league coaches. Hanhold continues to impress this season, he has fanned roughly a third of the hitters he has faced this season.

The Rumble Ponies were losing 6-4 when Peter Alonso came up to the dish in the ninth inning. They were leading after his at-bat. Alonso leads the league in BA, OBP, and SLG while also being tied for the lead in HR. This man will need a challenge soon enough. He is easily one of the best players in the league currently and has shown no signs of being slowed down. Like an adult playing T-ball.

St. Lucie Mets (11-13) 4, Charlotte Stone Crabs (11-14) 2 Box Score

It was a solid night for the St. Lucie pitchers. Prevost had a really rocky start to the year but rebounded nicely in this one. Nogosek came over in the Addison Reed deal but he really struggled last year. This year has been different though. His wacky delivery and good stuff have translated into results this year. He has struck out nearly 29.2% of the batters he has faced this year. Pobereyko, the former Independent ballplayer, has done nothing but pitch well since becoming a Met. He made a name for himself this past AFL season and could be a diamond in the rough the Mets found.

The St. Lucie offense did not do much after the fourth inning but the pitching held on. Gimenez is now hitting .274 and has drastically cut down his strikeouts from earlier in the season. It appears he is adjusting to the league and is hitting for some power. Lindsay, on the other hand, has still not figured things out. He is hitting .224/.333/.254 after one month in St. Lucie. His bat speed and eye give me hope that he will break out soon enough.

Lexington Legends (13-10) 7, Columbia Fireflies (12-13) 6 Box Score

  • LHP David Peterson (1-0, 3.24 ERA): 5 IP, 4 H, 2 R (0 ER), 4 BB, 6 K
  • RHP Darwin Ramos (0-0, 6.00 ERA): 2 IP, H, BB, K
  • RHP Stephen Villines (1-2, 7.24 ERA): 1 IP, 4 H, 5 ER, BB, 2 K

Peterson struggled with his command as you could tell from looking at the box score. It was just his third start of the season and he did well to limit the damage. The Mets recently mentioned he could rise quickly to the next level but he’s probably behind Anthony Kay if one of them needs to be moved up.

Villines had a really good streak from his second outing to last night. He really struggled last night, though, and coughed up the Fireflies. The sidearmer has still struck a lot of hitters but his outings like last night have kept his ERA inflated.

Fermin left this game early but got a couple hits in the game. Tiberi has cooled off since his red-hot start but still has a very high OBP. Brodey and his Stanford teammate, Matt Winaker still have not found their stroke this season. Both were considered advanced hitters coming into the season.
