Las Vegas (71-58) 5, New Orleans 4

Chase Bradford gave up three runs in the bottom of the 9th inning but got a 5-2-3 double play with the bases loaded to end the game and move their first place lead to 1.5 games over El Paso.

Seth Lugo got the win with a dominant performance in his third AAA start going 6.2 innings striking out a career high 12 batters. He threw 85 pitches with 59 for strikes while allowing one run on five hits and walked no one. Lugo helped himself with the bat too going 1-3 with a run scored and a double.

Vic Black came in to pitch the 8th inning getting two outs but walked one, gave up a single, and a long out to right field. Black has allowed five runs and eleven baserunners in his last 1.1 innings. Eric Campbell was 1-5 with two runs scored and his 5th homerun. Here is video of the homerun.  Kirk Nieuwenhuis was 2-5 with two strikeouts and a run scored.

Eric Young Jr. made his return to the Mets organization going 1-4 with a double, RBI, and two strikeouts while playing left field. Matt Reynolds was 1-4 with a run scored, RBI, and his 27th double. Dilson Herrera was 0-4 with a walk out of the leadoff spot. Brandon Nimmo and Kevin Plawecki were both out of the lineup. Box Score

New Hampshire 4, Binghamton (68-57) 3

Gavin Cecchini missed his fourth straight game of the weekend with a sore hip, he is considered day-to-day. Binghamton scored three runs in the top of the 9th and had the tying run on third when Jared King grounded out to end the game. Josh Rodriguez was 3-4 with his 18th homerun and two RBI giving him 69 on the season. Xorge Carrillo was 3-4 with a double and RBI.

Matt Koch struggled in his 3rd start returning to the rotation going 5.1 innings giving up four runs on nine hits with one walk and one strikeout. Adam Kolarek pitched 1.2 perfect innings of relief with two strikeouts and now has 12 straight scoreless innings.

Erik Goeddel pitched a scoreless 8th inning on 9 pitches with 6 strikes. He had a strikeout, allowed a single then induced an inning ending double play. He has now pitched three scoreless innings allowing three hits and no walks with four strikeouts in Binghamton. Box Score

St. Lucie (64-62) 1, Charlotte 0

Logan Taylor, Kelly Secrest, and Kyle Regnault combined to pitch a two-hit shutout for the St. Lucie Mets who managed only six hits themselves. Taylor went 7 scoreless innings allowing one hit with eight strikeouts while improving his record to 7-8 and lowered his ERA to 3.87. Regnault pitched a perfect 9th with a strikeout to pick up his 5th save of the year.

Matt Oberste was 2-4 and scored the only Mets run of the night. He also extended his hitting streak to twelve games and is hitting .298 on the season. Stefan Sabol was 2-3 and is hitting .375 over his last ten games. Amed Rosario went 1-3, he is not batting .259/.307/.341 for the year. Dominic Smith, Jeff McNeil, and Jhoan Urena combined to go 0-11 on the day. Box Score

Savannah (75-48) 9, Kannapolis 4 Game One

The Sand Gnats extended their winning streak to 18 games which would be the longest in the Major Leagues since the Oakland A’s won 20 in a row in 2002. Shortstop Luis Guillorme led the offense going 1-2 with four RBI, he had a sac fly and sac bunt. Eudor Garcia went 2-3 with two RBI and has now hit safely in 12 of 13 games.

Wuilmer Becerra was 1-3 with a walk and he has reached base safely in 13 straight games now. Catcher Natanael Ramos was 3-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and three runs scored. John Mora went 0-2 with a walk and a run scored.

Josh Prevost pitched 5 innings giving up four runs (three earned) on four hits and three walks while striking out three. He moved to 5-4 with a 3.75 ERA and 1.23 WHIP on the year. Tim Peterson pitched two scoreless innings to close the game out and lower his ERA to 1.96 for the Sand Gnats. Box Score

Savannah 1, Kannapolis 1 Game Two

The Sand Gnats had their historic win streak snapped in bizarre fashion in a game that was called a tie because of rain in the 5th inning. The winning streak stops at 18 and Savannah didn’t win their game for the first time since August 2nd. They scored on a RBI ground out by Tomas Nido in the bottom of the 5th to save them from losing.

John Mora led off the 9th inning with a double, the only hit of the game for Savannah. Jean Rodriguez was the only other batter to reach base going 0-1 with a walk and his 17th stolen base. Guillorme and Becerra both went 0-2 while Garcia was given the second game off.

Martires Arias pitched the complete game allowing one unearned run on three hits and four walks while striking out six. He lowered his ERA for Savannah to 2.55 and has given up just 82 hits in 113 innings pitched this season. Box Score

Brooklyn (29-31) 3, Aberdeen 2

Zach Mathieu singled in Branden Kaupe as the game-winning run in the top of the 8th inning for the Cyclones who are now only 3 games of of first place despite being in last place in the McNamara division.

Mathieu carried the Brooklyn offense going 3-4 with a double and knocked in all three runs. Jeffrey Diehl was 2-3 with a walk, double, and two runs scored. Vinny Siena was 0-4 and David Thompson got the night off.

Jose Celas got his first win of the year pitching a perfect 7th inning with one strikeout. P.J. Conlon gave up one hit and struck out two extending his scoreless streak to starts his career to 14 innings. Carlos Valdez pitched a scoreless 9th to pick up his 4th save and lower his ERA to 1.05 for Brooklyn. Box Score 

Kingsport (32-26) 6, Bristol 3 

Dash Winningham was 2-4 with his 16th double, run scored, and his league leading 48th RBI of the year. He has four homeruns, fourteen hits, and fourteen RBI in his last ten games. Luis Carpio was 2-3 with his 9th stolen base and two runs scored. Patrick Mazeika was 1-3 with a run scored, HBP, two RBI (46), and his league leading 26th double of the year. He extended his hitting streak to fourteen games.

Kevin Kaczmarski is now 2nd in the league in batting with his .350 average after going 1-4 with a double and a run scored extending his hitting streak to eight games. Ivan Wilson was 1-3 with a RBI, run scored, and threw a runner out trying to score at home. Ivan extended his hitting streak to eight games as well.  Milton Ramos went 0-1 with walk and a sacrifice fly.

Nabil Crismatt moved to 6-1 with a 2.41 ERA after going 5 innings giving up two runs on eight hits and striking out seven. He has won four straight games and hasn’t lost since July 2nd. Wilt Haggard pitched the last two innings giving up a run and striking out four to pick up his second save. Box Score

Over The Weekend

Las Vegas won 9-5 on Sunday with Kirk Nieuwenhuis driving in three runs and a stealing home on a crazy play which you can see here. Kevin Plawecki was 3-6 with two runs scored in two games this weekend. On Friday night Travis Taijeron hit three runs in his first three at bats giving him 23 for the season.

Binghamton split a doubleheader with New Hampshire winning 3-0 in the first game behind Tyler Pill who moved to 4-0 and losing 3-0 in games two when they were one-hit. Knuckleballer Mickey Jannis took the loss in game two going 5.1 innings giving up three runs in his B’Mets debut.

Chris Flexen was absolutely dominant on Friday night for Savannah pitching 8 scoreless innings allowing four hits and no walks while striking out 10 hitters on 100 pitches.
