brandon nimmo

It was light on the Minor League schedule with both Las Vegas and Savannah having off days but that didn’t keep the Mets from getting a serious injury scare. I was the at the game and what seemed like a harmless double to left center field before it resulted in Brandon Nimmo leaving the field with the help of trainers. He was in visible pain and walking gingerly which they are saying luckily was nothing more than a “pinch” he felt when he stepped awkwardly on the bag. Nimmo was able to walk to the bus himself and a team official said is was no cause for concern. Here is the video coverage. Binghamton has an off day today meaning hopefully we will get more specifics and see him back in action on Friday.

Binghamton 8, Portland 3

Binghamton was able to complete a sweep of the Portland Sea Dogs in 28 hours with the Rodriguez combo doing most of the damage last night driving in 6 of the runs. Josh Rodriguez started his night off with a 419 foot solo HR off the batters eye in center field in the first inning. In the 3rd inning JRod hit a bases clearing double to left center field that never got to the wall but still scored Nimmo all the way from 1st. Jairo Perez then hit a moonshot right down the left field line that was initially called foul but the umps got together reversing it into a two-run HR. The umpires got the call right much to the displeasure of Sea Dog manager Billy McMillon who came out and argued until he was ejected. Aderlin Rodriguez hit his 3rd HR off the year in the top of the 7th giving the Mets a 8-3 lead. Nimmo looked great at the plate after he popped out to 1st base in his first at bat. With two runners on in the 3rd inning he worked a walk to load the bases before the aforementioned 2B by JRod. In the top of the 4th Nimmo ripped a line drive to right field that he turned into a hustle triple. Then finally in the top of the 9th Nimmo hit the sharp double that went to the wall in LCF that should have scored Jared King but he wasn’t waved home for some reason. Nimmo also made a great running catch in center field on the warning track that had the press box talking.

Rainy Lara got the start for Binghamton and didn’t last long enough to pick up the win going 4 innings giving up three runs on six hits, two walks, balk, wild pitch, and struck out two. Lara was hitting 87-88 MPH consistently on his fastball with a couple 91’s in the 4th inning. Adam Kolarek was great in relief throwing three scoreless innings of relief to pick up his first win since May of last year. Kolarek gave up only one hit and struck out three while pounding the strike zone and only throwing 34 pitches. Dario Alvarez and Jon Velasquez followed each throwing a scoreless inning to close out the sweep. Alvarez got some really weak swings from righties and lefties on his good slider. Box Score

Savannah 7, Delmarva 5

The Sand Gnats were down 4-2 going to the bottom of the 7th before they scored four to take the lead and one more in the 8th to extend the lead. The offense was anchored by John Mora who reached base three times, scoring twice, and knocking in two runs to bring his line up to .286/.392/.413 on the year. Luis Guillorme had a good game out of the lead off spot going 2-4 with a walk, R, RBI, and now holds a .427 on base.  Jean Rodriguez collected three hits and knocked in a run, hitting .308 over his last ten games. Corey Oswalt got the no-decision throwing 6 innings giving up two earned runs on seven hits and struck out four hitters. Former Nationals 1st round pick Josh Smoker made his Mets debut picking up the win in relief pitching one inning allowing a run while striking out two. Shane Bay struck out Jay Gonzalez, who was the tying run, to end the game to pick up his 2nd save of the season. Box Score

Steven Matz is back on the hill tonight after throwing 7 scoreless innings giving up only two hits in his last outing. He will take mound at 10:05 ET in Las Vegas as they host Reno. St. Lucie takes on Bradenton tonight at 7:05 with no starters currently listed. Savannah will play Delmarva again with Brad Wieck trying to get his win off the season.
