Binghamton (53-43) 9, New Britain 5

Michael Fulmer just keeps boosting his possible trade value and yesterday was another step in the right direction pitching 5 shutout innings while pushing the B’Mets into first place. He was pitching out of trouble all day though thanks to six hits, walk, and three errors but Michael was up for the challenge as he held the Rock Cats to 0-9 with runners in scoring position. He threw only 82 pitches (58 strikes) while striking out nine and picking up his 5th win for Binghamton.

New Britain could not lay off Michael’s nasty slider with eight of their strikeouts being of the swinging variety. Fulmer is also trying to fit in his changeup more and even got a lefty to strikeout on the pitch. If he could turn the changeup into an average Major League pitch that would really boost his value to Mets and other teams. Michael finally accumulated enough innings to qualify for the league leaders and his 2.03 ERA in 2nd in the Eastern League.

The bullpen wasn’t as sharp as Beck Wheeler gave up three runs while Akeel Morris and Adam Kolarek each gave up solo homeruns. Josh Smoker came in to douse the fire though pitching a perfect 9th with one strikeout, he is yet to walk a batter compared to eight strikeouts in 6 innings for Binghamton.

Gavin Cecchini had a great day hitting the ball to all fields as he went 4-5 with his 3rd triple and scored a run. He now has the 6th best average in the league (.310) and the 10th best OPS at .819. He did however make his 24th error in the field and another of the throwing variety. L.J. Mazzilli was 0-5 failing to reach base for the first time in 21 games.

Michael Conforto had a good day at the plate going 2-4 with a walk and his 26th RBI for Binghamton, both hits were off a lefty. He is hitting .333/.414/.490 off lefties in AA after struggling to a .200/.290/.364 against them in St. Lucie. Brandon Nimmo went 0-4 with a walk and a run scored. Josh Rodriguez, Xorge Carrillo, and Jared King all hit homeruns for the B’Mets. Kings’ was a pinch hit and grand slam and you can see it here. Box Score
