As reported by Ken Davidoff in his recent article for NY Post, Jerry Narron recently met with new Mets manager Carlos Beltran and assistant GM Allard Baird to discuss the club’s bench coach opening.

Narron was already known as a candidate for the position, though this is the first report of him specifically meeting with Beltran and Baird.

Narron has plenty of coaching experience, as he has managed for both the Reds and Rangers and has served as the bench coach for the Reds, Brewers, and Diamondbacks.

Davidoff also noted that the Mets are scheduled to interview former Braves and Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez for the same position.

Additionally, former Blue Jays manager John Gibbons reportedly spoke with Brodie Van Wagenen on the phone about the opening. Gibbons has some ties to the Mets as he played 18 games for them between the 1984 and 1986 seasons, and also managed in their minor league system.

However, Gibbons reportedly will not interview in person, so it doesn’t like those conversations will be progressing any further.

Regardless of who the Mets eventually narrow it down to, as Davidoff noted it is clear that they are going after someone with coaching experience to fill the bench coach vacancy, considering Beltran’s inexperience.
