Ken Davidoff of the New York Post reports that the Mets have expressed interest in signing catchers Robinson Chirinos and Drew Butera.

Chirinos hit .238/.347/.443 with 17 home runs and 58 RBI with the Houston Astros in 2019 which gave him a 105 OPS+ and 3.8 bWAR. Defensively, the 35-year-old ranked negatively in framing as Baseball Savant had him as -9 in Runs Extra Strikes.

Butera, 36, only appeared in 16 games this season with the Colorado Rockies in which he hit a lowly.163/.229/.233 with no homers and three RBI.

This would actually mark his second time in the Mets organization if they signed him as he was with them from 2005 until the middle of the 2007 season when he was traded to the Minnesota Twins for Luis Castillo.

Brodie Van Wagenen labeled Wilson Ramos as the team’s starting catcher at the GM Meetings and said they were looking for backup options possibly to replace Tomas Nido.
