I was just thinking how crazy this entire Carlos Beltran situation is and how bad the timing is for our New York Mets.

Yesterday, I learned that before Beltran and the Mets had mutually agreed to part ways, he was at Mets camp in Port St. Lucie and had in fact held a meeting with the entire coaching staff. Wish I was a fly on the wall for that.

It’s so odd that players are going to be arriving, a few have already, and the manager is the one who is missing in action.

I remember Terry Collins was always one of the first people in camp, usually arriving in early to mid January. David Wright, Wilmer Flores and Juan Lagares couldn’t get to camp soon enough, they were always very early arrivals. Ruben Tejada not so much, haha… But seriously speaking the whole situation is just so bizarre.

QUICK HITS

It looks like Dusty Baker is being strongly considered to take over the vacant manager position. I like Dusty and he’s a winner with a solid track record. But I wonder if his gruff old school style meshes well with the current roster. That said, his experience might come in handy given whoever Brodie chooses will have just twenty or fewer days before the start of spring training.

I hated to see Joe Panik go to the Blue Jays, I was hoping we could re-sign him as a utility infielder. I liked his style of play and that he was a New York guy. Jed Lowrie is an x-factor and has really complicated things this offseason. Do you trust him to be healthy in 2020? Because clearly, Brodie is operating as if he’ll have a significant role this season. We’ll see…
