Today, the Los Angeles Dodgers claimed LHP P.J. Conlon off waivers from the Mets.

Conlon, the Irish-born left-hander, was designated for assignment on May 30 in one of the moves that cleared roster space for RHPs Tim Peterson and Scott Copeland. The move to DFA Conlon was viewed as someone surprising, considering his youth and success in the minor leagues.

Conlon, who was raised in California and attended the University of San Diego, started two games for the Mets prior to being let go and pitched to an ugly 11.12 ERA in 5.2 innings. He was viewed as a reliever in the long-term.

Despite that, the soft-tossing southpaw was the Mets’ Organizational Pitcher of the Year in 2016 when he went 12-2 with a 1.65 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, and 112 strikeouts in 142 innings pitched between St. Lucie and Columbia.
