Mike Puma of the New York Post reports that the Mets are looking for a right-hitting hitter that can play center field better than Brandon Nimmo.

Nimmo, 26, wasn’t terrible in center field last season, but registered -2 DRS and a -1.5 UZR in 284 2/3 innings.

Moving him to a corner spot would probably be more ideal and given that the Mets have Nimmo, Michael Conforto, Jeff McNeil, and Robinson Cano set to be in the lineup each day next season, it makes sense that they would pursue a right-handed hitter.

In the article, Puma mentions Mookie Betts, Starling Marte, Kevin Pillar, and Manuel Margot as options the Mets could pursue via trade.

The Mets declined Juan Lagares‘ $9.5 million option at the end of the season which means that the Mets should at least get someone capable of filling this role in a bench capacity.

If the Mets can’t address this need, though, Brodie Van Wagenen still “believe[s] that [Nimmo] can play every day in center field.”
