According to a report from Ken Davidoff of NY Post, the Mets recently interviewed Hensley Meulens for the currently vacant bench coach position.

As the Mets continue to search for someone with coaching experience to aid new manager Carlos Beltran, Meulens joins Jerry Narron, Fredi Gonzalez, and Joey Cora as the known candidates thus far.

Meulens spent 10 years coaching alongside the recently retired Bruce Bochy with the Giants, including two years as their bench coach.

Meulens, now 52, was a former top prospect for the Yankees and spent parts of five major league season with them. He also had cups of coffee with the Expos and Diamondbacks but never found prolonged success at the highest level.

Meulens also interviewed for the Yankees’ managerial position two years ago only to be beaten out by Aaron Boone. He’s another strong candidate who would bring his experience around baseball and specifically in coaching to help aid the newly minted Beltran.
