The New York Mets have three of the top 30 shortstop prospects in baseball according to Baseball America rankings that came out on Friday.

Fernando Tatis Jr. of the Padres and Wander Franco of the Rays start off the list, with Andres Gimenez being the first Met at No. 6.

Gimenez, 20, is the Mets top prospect according to BA and No. 30 in baseball overall. The left-handed hitter slashed .281/.347/.509 with 29 doubles, five triples, six home runs, and 38 stolen bases in 2018 between Advance-A St. Lucie and Double-A Binghamton. He will be in big league camp for spring training.

The next Mets shortstop on the list is 17-year-old Ronny Mauricio at No. 16. Mauricio, switch-hitter, made his pro debut in 2018 with the rookie level GCL and Kingsport Mets. He was given a $2.1 million signing bonus in 2017 (Mets record at the time). BA had Mauricio in their top 100 prospects at No. 98 and Keith Law had him at No. 99.

Finally, 19-year-old Shervyen Newton is ranked as the No. 30 shortstop prospect. The Netherlands native hit .280/.408/.449 with 16 doubles, two triples, five home runs, and 41 RBIs last season for Kingsport.

Mets prospect Mark Vientos ranked No. 15 on BA’s third base list, Peter Alonso was second among first baseman, and catchers Tomas Nido and Francisco Alvarez were both on the top 35 catchers list.
