Mike Puma of the New York Post reports that the Mets have scheduled an interview with Doug Melvin.
Melvin, 66, has been a GM for two different organizations in his career (the Texas Rangers and more recently the Milwaukee Brewers).
His tenure with the Rangers lasted eight years starting in 1994 and ending in 2001 before he became the Brewers’ GM in 2002, which he remained in that capacity until the end of 2015. He has been serving in a senior advisor in the organization since then.
Melvin actually has negotiated trades with the Mets front office regime led by Sandy Alderson as he acquired Francisco Rodriguez from the team in 2011 and also was on the other end of the infamous Carlos Gomez for Wilmer Flores and Zack Wheeler trade debacle.
This is the first candidate that has scheduled an interview with the organization. Jon Heyman reported yesterday that there are 10-12 legitimate candidates in the mix and said that Kim Ng is another one currently being considered for the position.
