The Mets earned their first win of Spring Training as they defeated the Washington Nationals by a score of 2-1. (Boxscore)

Pitching

Pitching prospect David Peterson started the game off for the Mets, throwing two shutout innings while striking out two and allowing just one hit to former Met Asdrubal Cabrera.

Next up was right-hander Paul Sewald, who tossed in a scoreless inning of his own in the third. Sewald allowed one walk while striking out one.

In to start the fourth was Erasmo Ramirez, who put in two impressive scoreless innings of work while striking out four.

Jordan Humphreys took the sixth and subsequently gave up the lone run of the game for Washington, allowing a ground-rule double to the Nats’ Andrew Stevenson that scored Emilio Bonifacio from second.

Francisco Rios came in for the seventh, giving up just one hit in his one inning of work.

Up next was Rob Whalen, who struck out two to get through the eighth.

Rounding out the day was Joseph Shaw, who managed to get through the ninth cleanly without giving up a hit.

Offense

Catcher Wilson Ramos tattooed a baseball in the second inning, thus giving the Mets an early 1-0 lead. Ramos added a double for good measure in the fourth.

In the fourth, new Met Eduardo Nunez cracked a single to right, scoring Edgardo Fermin for the Mets’ second run of the game.

Brandon Nimmo had himself a nice game as well, racking up two hits in three at-bats.

Jeff McNeil added another hit to his Spring totals, going 1-for-3 on the day.

On Deck

On Tuesday at 1:05 p.m., the Mets face off against the Detroit Tigers at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland, FL. Michael Wacha will toe the mound for the Mets while the Tigers will send out Spencer Turnbull to start the game.
