Mets Farm Report: Den Dekker Blasts First AAA Home Run, Sandoval Delivers In B-Mets Win

The Buffalo Bisons gave up four home runs, and then attempted a late inning rally, but to no avail as they lost 8-3 to Pawtucket.

Dylan Owen with the start Friday night for Buffalo, got tagged really early giving up a solo homer on the second pitch of the game. He induced three straight groundouts to end the inning. In the third inning, Owen was tagged for three more runs and allowed another solo home run.  Although he was charge with four runs, only two of those runs were earned. He fought to stay in the game, but was yanked by Wally Backman after only three innings. It was his fourth loss of the season and he now has an ERA of 5.23.

The bullpen was called in to pitch the final six innings and would allow another four runs to cross the plate. Jack Egbert failed to provide any relief allowing three more runs on two doubles and then a two-run blast in one inning of work. Jenrry Mejia finally got in some bullpen work with a scoreless fifth inning, but needed 19 pitches to do it.

Next up was Manny Acosta with a hitless sixth inning and two strikeouts, and then a one hit seventh inning to preserve his perfect 0.00 ERA in Triple-A.

Jeff Stevens got the ball next, he got two quick outs, gave up a base hit, and then retired his final batter with a ground out. Finally in the ninth, Fernando Cabrera allowed Pawtucket’s fourth home run of the night – a one out solo shot.

The Bisons offense attempted their first comeback in the third inning when Matt Den Dekker hit his first Triple-A home run with two outs. But Ronny Cedeno went down swinging to end the inning. Later in the ninth with one on and two away, good ol’ Val Pascucci tried to keep it alive with a two-run homer, his 13th of the season. However, Matt Tuiasosopo went down looking to end the game.

Herd Rumblings: Matt Den Dekker hit his first home run since being called up to Buffalo. However, going only 1-4, his average is now .182. Justin Turner, who is coming to Flushing to replace Jason Bay on Saturday, went 1-for-4 while playing second base for Triple-A Buffalo on Friday. He has been out with a right ankle sprain since the end of last month. Ronny Cedeño had a single in four-at-bats for Buffalo. He played shortstop. He has been out since May 27 with a strained calf. Next up, the Bisons will continue to host the Pawtucket Red Sox for game three of this four game series.

Binghamton 4, Altoona 3

Three unanswered runs scored by the Binghamton Mets in the bottom of the sixth inning on Friday night carried them to a 4-3 victory over the visiting Altoona Curve. Starter Gonzalez Germen earned his second win in as many starts, striking out six Curve batters in six innings worth of work. Germen gave up all three runs scored by the visitors, only one of which was earned, on eight hits. Of the 89 pitches Germen threw, 57 of them were for strikes.

Ryan Fraser was credited with his first hold of the season in his second appearance in a B-Mets uniform. Fraser had a strong outing striking out all three Curve batters he faced in one inning worth of work.

Armando Rodriguez pitched the final two innings of the game for the B-Mets, giving up no runs or hits, striking out four, and walking two. Rodriguez earned his first save of the season in the game.

Rylan Sandoval had a big night at the plate, going 3-4 with a double and two RBI’s. Sandoval’s single in the bottom of the sixth scored Eric Campbell from third and would prove to be the game winning run for the B-Mets.

Dustin Martin’s numbers on Friday night mirrored those from the night before, going 2-4 with a double, two RBI’s, and a run scored. Martin scored the B-Mets first run of the game in the fifth inning when he made it home from second on a Rylan Sandoval single.

B-Mets Buzz: Darin Gorski (4-3, 3.97) takes the mound on Saturday night for the Binghamton Mets against the Curve’s Shairon Martis (4-2, 3.67). Gorski looks to continue his success in June, where his record in two starts so far stands at 2-0 in 14.1 innings pitched. In his last outing, Gorski blanked the Trenton Thunder for eight innings in the B-Mets 12-0 win at Waterfront Park.

Savannah 5, Rome 4

Friday night in Rome, the Sand Gnats held off a late charge by the Braves (ATL) and won their 5th straight, defeating the Rome Braves 5-4

Savannah RHP Rafael Montero pitched 6 strong innings, earning his 6th win of the season. The Gnats (39-26) scored first, plating a run in the top of the 2nd on an RBI single by DH Gilbert Gomez (1-4, 1 RBI), giving the Gnats an early 1-0 lead. The Braves (39-26) answered back in the bottom of the 3rd on a 2 run shot by DH Kyle Kubitza.

Savannah took the lead right back in the top of the 4th after loading the bases with nobody out, with a walk and 2 singles to open the frame and then a base clearing double by RF Greg Pron (1-3, BB, 3 RBI) gave the Gnats a 4-2 edge.

The score remained 4-2 heading into the 8th, but the Gnats would add an insurance run, after DH Travis Taijeron (1-2, 2BB 3R), hit a 1 out single, took 2nd on an errant throw and scored on a single by Brian Harrison (2-4, RBI). 5-2 Gnats.

Rome would continue to battle back, getting 2 runs back in the bottom of the 8th on a 2 run homer by Billy Beckwith to cut the lead to a final score of 5-4.

Gnats RHP Jeffrey Walters who came in the 8th for the final 2 outs, stayed on for the save in the 9th and promptly yielded a leadoff hit but retired the next 3 hitters to end the game and pick up his 3rd save of the year.

Gnats Gnotes: RHP Raffy Montero (6-3, 2.52) went 6 innings, scattering 7 hits, 2 runs both earned, issued a walk and struckout 6. C Camden Maron conitnues his hot hitting with 3 hits tonight and over his last 10 games is 20-42 for a sizzlingg 476 BA over that span. SS TJ Rivera is also in fire over his last 10 games, 17-45 for a .378 BA.

Congratulations to one of our Incredibles, Clayton Collier!

In case you haven’t heard, the Brooklyn Cyclones announced their new partnership with 89.5 WSOU Radio, as the team’s new flagship station for game broadcasts during the 2012 season. WSOU will air Opening Day and all 38 Cyclones road games over the airwaves on 89.5 FM.

What makes that so freaking cool is that our own Clayton Collier will be a part of the Brooklyn Cyclones broadcast team for WOSU 89.5 FM.

He will also take charge of the Brooklyn Cyclones coverage here on MMO, while Sean Kenny and Fonzie take over the beat for the Savannah Sand Gnats.

By the way, we’ll be at the Opening Day festivities and have plenty of Cyclones coverage for you including plenty of pictures and player interviews. Kingsport Mets News

Kingsport is also gearing up for the start of their season and the Mets already announced that Jose Leger will manage the K-Mets this year. Leger, a former catcher and infielder who played in the Minnesota Twins’ minor league system from 2004-2008, managed the DSL Mets (R) of the Dominican Summer League the past two seasons. Leger made his coaching debut in 2009 with the DSL Twins as the club’s hitting coach.

We already have 11 members on our minor league team, but I’m a big proponent of even numbers so if you’re interested in joining our team, and interested in going to the games for free, and interested in meeting and interviewing our young prospects, and love to write about the Mets Minors, then email me at [email protected] and you too could become a part of The Incredibles.
