LAS VEGAS 11,TACOMA 3
Jacob deGrom picks up his third win, and Taylor Teagarden blasts two home runs as the Las Vegas 51′s pound on the Tacoma Rainiers 11-3. Las Vegas improves to 18-5 on the season and remain in first place by 4.5 games in the PCL’s Pacific Southern Division. deGrom didn’t have his best outing lasting just five innings, but it certainly was enough as the 51′s bats took care of the rest. Taylor Teagarden has been deadly at the plate lately. He is 10-for-25, 5 HR, 11 RBI during his current 7-game hit streak giving the powers that be something to think about. Andrew Brown has also been making his presence known in Las Vegas in the three games he has been a part of. He belted his second home run and is 5-for-12 during his brief time with the 51′s. Las Vegas will try to make it seven wins in a row in the series finale against Tacoma on Sunday. Logan Verrett is on the hill looking for his second win of the season. (box score)
BINGHAMTON 8, ERIE 1 (GAME 1)
After having to deal with six games being postponed and rescheduled due to weather already this season, the Binghamton Mets had to play a double header on Saturday against the Erie SeaWolves. The first game certainly went the B-Mets way as they win decisively 8-1. Matthew Bowman got the start and improved to 3-0 on the season after a quality 5.1 inning outing. Bowman allowed just one run despite allowing five hits and walking three batters. Adam Kolarek recorded his first save of the season on an extended relief appearance. Kolarek didn’t allow a hit in his 1.2 innings of work. Kyle Johnson went 3-for-4 with a home run and three runs driven in. Not to be outdone by Johnson, Matt Clark hit a home run as well and added three RBI as the pair essentially beat the SeaWolves themselves. (box score)
ERIE 6, BINGHAMTON 5 (GAME 2)
The second game of the double header didn’t quite go the way the B-Mets had hoped. A walk-off single by the SeaWolves Francisco Martinez would end what would otherwise have been a great day. Darin Gorski started the game for Binghamton and went an effective five innings and handed the ball over to the bullpen with the lead. With a 5-3 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning, Chase Bradford struggled to close out the day and would eventually wind up getting the blown save and the loss by giving up three runs in one inning. The Mets jumped out to an early 4-0 lead thanks to a 2-run double by Travis Taijeron. Binghamton would add one more run in the fourth inning on a sac fly by Darrell Ceciliani, but that would be it. Rainy Lara gets the start on Sunday and will look to improve to 3-0 on the season. (box score)
BRADENTON 4, ST. LUCIE 3
The St. Lucie Mets would lead 2-0 after the first inning but couldn’t hold on, as the Bradenton Marauders won the second game of the series 4-3. Domingo Tapia started the game for St. Lucie and would last six innings giving up 3 of the 4 Marauders runs. Tapia gave up seven hits with one walk while striking out two. Brandon Nimmo (.393/.519/.500) provided some of the Mets offense going 3-for-5 with one run batted in and two runs scored but it wouldn’t be enough. Tomorrow is another day, and the Mets will look to take the rubber match of the series and put themselves back into first place in the FSL South. Sunday’s starter is TBD. (box score)
LAKEWOOD 3, SAVANNAH 0
Savannah’s modest four-game win streak would be halted on Saturday thanks to a brilliant pitching performance by Lakewood’s Mark Leiter. Leiter went 8 innings and baffled the SandGnats hitters allowing just four hits. On the other side of the ball, Savannah’s John Gant was also brilliant but would come out on the losing end. Gant went six very strong innings allowing just one run while striking out a season high 10 batters. It is unfortunate for Gant that the SandGnat offense was non-existent after scoring 24-runs in their last four games. Sunday is the final game of the five-game set between these two teams. Chris Flexen is scheduled to start in the finale. (box score)
METS MINORS PLAYER of the NIGHT
It wasn’t a bad night for the Mets organization but it could have been better. Overall all of the teams are doing well which should potentially make people a bit excited. Taylor Teagarden is the MMN Player of the night. If the two home runs weren’t enough to convince me the five runs batted in would have. Hopefully his streak will continue and who knows maybe we will see him at Citi Field sometimes this summer.
