Mets Dismiss Longtime PA Announcer Alex Anthony

Mike Puma of the New York Post reports the New York Mets have “dismissed’ long-time Public Address Announcer Alex Anthony.

For the first time in Citi Field’s now 10 year history, Anthony was not the public address announcer introducing the Mets on Opening Day.

For Opening Day, Rob Rush took over the public address duties. He will serve in that role on an interim basis, he’s been used as a fill-in before, while the Mets conduct a search to replace Anthony. Rush is also the public address announcer of the G-League Long Island Nets.

At this time it is not known why the Mets parted with their public address announcer of 14 years.

Certainly, it seems like this was a very recent and possibly sudden decision as Anthony had served as the public address announcer during the Winter Classic, and the team had made no announcement prior to the game.
