According to Sandy Alderson, Blaine Boyer has won a spot on the Opening Day roster, as has Daniel Murphy.

Manny Acosta has been designated for assignment.

Jason Isringhausen will stick around in extended spring training.

As was previously reported by HoJo this afternoon, reliever Manny Acosta is on the bubble and unless the Mets add him to the 25 man roster, he will go on waivers and most likely get picked up by another team.

Acosta is locked in a battle with Jason Isringhausen and Blaine Boyer, both of whom could also be lost should they fail to lock down the final bullpen spot.

All three of them are talented. Izzy brings his veteran presence, Boyer oozes with potential, and Acosta has succeeded at this level and is coming off a solid season in 2010.

It looks like Sandy Alderson will try to keep that from happening.

According to the NY Times, the Mets have asked the right-handed reliever Jason Isringhausen to remain in extended spring training for a week or two to increase his arm strength and reassure them that his elbow is healthy.

Isringhausen, 38, had been against the idea, but he told the Mets he would consider the possibility and get back to them soon. He has said he will not pitch in Class AAA once the season starts.

Isringhausen has been dead set against going to the minor leagues, so give credit to Alderson who used some diplomacy to break some new ground in getting Izzy to consider staying on with the team even if he is not initially added to the roster.

The Mets have also discussed the idea of asking right-handed reliever, Blaine Boyer, to accept a minor league assignment, according to the same article in the Times.

Boyer has an opt-out in his contract that would allow him to become a free agent if the Mets do not put him on the 25-man roster.

Obviously, Alderson is doing his part in trying to keep all three relievers which will give the team some depth in the bullpen that had been sorely lacking in previous seasons.

Hopefully, Alderson can pull it off as it would be a shame to either of these three who each bring something to the table.
