The New York Mets are hoping that right-hander Seth Lugo can return to the rotation on Sunday when they have a doubleheader against the division leading Washington Nationals.

Lugo will throw a bullpen for the first time on Friday since being placed on the disabled list with a shoulder impingement two weeks ago.

If Lugo can’t go, one of the pitchers the Mets are considering is right-hander Marcos Molina. Molina missed the entire 2016 regular season because of Tommy John surgery.

Molina, 22, is 4-9 with a 2.98 ERA (3.77 in Binghamton), 1.15 WHIP and 71 strikeouts compared to 22 walks in 90.2 innings between the Single-A St. Lucie Mets and the Double-A Binghamton Rumble Ponies. He has allowed only 82 hits and five home runs this season.

The biggest reason for Molina being considered is him already being on the Mets 40-man roster.

In our post-deadline Top 30 Mets prospects, we had Molina ranked No. 15 and MLB Pipeline has him at No. 8.
