Adonis Medina and Deven Marrero will be called up in September to fill the Mets’ extra roster spots, Andy Martino of SNY reported Wednesday night.

With Brett Baty on the injured list, the Mets decided to go with the utility infielder Marrero. In four at-bats this year for the Mets, Marrero has two strikeouts and has not reached base. With Luis Guillorme on the IL as of now, Marrero will provide the Mets with a backup shortstop.

The Mets will also opt to bring up Medina to provide Buck Showalter with depth in the bullpen. Medina has given the Mets length when in the majors, recording 23 1/3 innings in 13 games. The young right-hander has also had the flair for the dramatic, recording a save earlier in the year on June 5 at Dodger Stadium.

To many Mets fans’ dismay, Mark Vientos remains in Triple-A for now. The Mets’ No. 7 overall prospect has raked so far in Syracuse, batting to a slash line of .283/.361/.531 with 23 home runs.

Martino added that Terrance Gore will also remain on the roster. Gore was selected from Syracuse earlier Wednesday after Baty’s injury was announced. The outfielder brings speed to the team and will likely be used in almost exclusively a pinch-running role.
