With this weekend barren of baseball for the New York Mets and New York Yankees, a scenario has arisen that may see the two teams play as many as five times the weekend of August 29 to August 31. A three-game series between the clubs was already scheduled at Yankee Stadium for that weekend.

The timeline could go something like this: a doubleheader on Friday and/or Sunday with a single game on Saturday. It is unknown at this time whether one of the possible twin bills would be at Citi Field, the site of the cancelled games this weekend.

The remaining postponed game could be played on either September 3 or September 14, which are mutual off days.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone told Peter Caldera of North Jersey.com, “We understand we’re getting ready to head into a challenging stretch. (It) would have been nice to get one or even two of these games in (Monday),” which was originally an off day for both clubs. The Yankees haven’t played a game since Thursday afternoon.

The Mets were shutdown due to two members of the team, one player and one staff member, testing positive for COVID-19 while in Miami for their recent series against the Marlins. This caused MLB to postpone the Subway Series scheduled to begin last Friday.

As it stands now on Sunday evening, the Yankees will not play again until Tuesday when they visit the Braves for a two-game series. The Mets are supposed to open a three-game set the same day against the Marlins. However, there has been no official word as to when the Mets will return to action. They have not worked out since returning to New York.

This is a fluid situation and this article (and others) will be updated as soon as news presents.
