Thanks to a solid effort by Jon Niese and a surprising 11-hit outburst, the Mets defeated the Miami Marlins by the score of 7-3 on Friday night at Citi Field.
The win snapped the Mets’ nine game home losing streak, but they set the new franchise record of not scoring more than three runs in 16 straight home games.
Game Highlights
Jonathan Niese allowed three runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out seven over 6.1 innings to win his 12th game of the season, a new career high for him. Niese also extended his streak of consecutive starts of six innings or more to 19.
Ike Davis hit his team leading 28th home run of the season, a solo shot in the seventh inning. Davis now leads the Mets with 83 RBIs this season.
ESPN Stats: Davis’ 28 homers are the fourth most by a first baseman in franchise history. Carlos Delgado had 38 twice (2006 and 2008) and Dave Kingman had 37 in 1982. Davis passed Eddie Murray, who had 27 in 1993.
Scott Hairston also homered, a three-run shot in the first, his 18th of the season and a new career high for him.
David Wright went 0-for-4 and remains four hits shy of matching Ed Kranepool’s franchise-record 1,418 career hits.
Lucas Duda was pulled in the third by Terry Collins for lack of hustle on a misplayed ball in the outfield by the Marlins. Oddly, he wasn’t removed until a full inning later which led to some confusion that he may have been injured, but he’s fine.
Bobby Parnell tossed 1.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen.

Big day for R.A. Dickey on Saturday as he vies for his 19th win of the season. Dickey (18-6, 2.67 ERA) opposes left-hander Mark Buehrle (13-12, 3.78) in a 1:10 PM matinee.
