Max Scherzer picked up right where he left off with another strong mound appearance since coming off of the injured list.

Scherzer threw six strong innings, giving up just one run on four hits and a walk. He gave up one home run, but struck out seven on the way to his 11th win of the season. He threw 91 total pitches (62 for strikes) over the course of his six innings pitched. He now has an ERA of 2.13 through 22 total games appeared in this season.

Scherzer’s only mistake of the day came in the bottom of the fourth when Seth Brown hit a solo home run to left-center field that gave the Athletics their first run of the game. It was on a 94.9 mph four-seam fastball that left the ballpark with a velocity of 104.6 mph.

Other than the home run, Scherzer had another very strong performance in which he dominated on the mound.

Of the 22 games he has appeared in, Scherzer has thrown at least six innings in 19 of those starts.

Scherzer spoke with the media following his outing. He spoke mainly on Pete Alonso’s big day, keeping his teammate the center of attention.

“He’s just doing so much for our ballclub, on and off the field,” said Scherzer of Alonso. “he plays with so much heart… He’s been a treat to have as a teammate.”

Scherzer also said while he enjoys having Alonso as a teammate, he enjoys facing the best and “actually wants to face him.”

Through the 2022 season, Scherzer is now 11-4 with a 2.13 ERA over the course of 139.2 innings pitched. He has a total of 169 strikeouts and a WHIP of 0.88 for the Mets.
