The Mets entered the ninth inning of Sunday’s game tied with Worcester at five runs apiece. The Mets loaded the bases, but, with two outs, it looked like Worcester might escape the inning unscathed. Carlos Rincon spoiled those hopes, however, as he crushed a long home run that gave the Mets a commanding four-run lead.

Syracuse’s offensive production was evenly distributed throughout the lineup in Sunday’s game, as every batter in the lineup reached base at least once and seven batters had at least one hit. Rincon was injured for much of the season and has struggled when healthy, but he had the biggest hit of the game and of his season in the ninth inning. With the game tied at five runs apiece, Rincon stepped to the plate with two outs and the bases loaded. He proceeded to launch a long fly ball over the left field wall for a game-winning grand slam. Power is one thing that Rincon has not been lacking in recent weeks, and six of his seven hits in September have gone for extra bases. Álvarez’s hitless game snapped a seven-game hitting streak, but he is still hitting an impressive .341/.438/.610. Mangum now has at least one hit in each of his last five games.

Fisher gave up three home runs in his brief start, but all three were solo shots, making the damage much more manageable than it could have been. This was the first time in Fisher’s professional career that he has given up more than one home run in an appearance. Diehl has not allowed an earned run in any of his last five appearances. Hartwig signed as an undrafted free agent just over a year ago, but he has raced through the system and now has two straight scoreless appearances to begin his time in Triple-A.
