The New York Mets (71-85) will have to wait one more day to begin the final homestand of the 2023 season. Tuesday night’s series opener against the Miami Marlins (81-75) was postponed because the field was deemed unplayable due to the amount of rain that has hit the New York area over the last few days.

The two teams will end up making up the game as part of a straight doubleheader on Wednesday with Game 1 beginning at 4:10 p.m ET. If the game were to have been played tonight, the starters were going to be LHP Braxton Garrett (9-6, 3.53) for Miami and LHP Joey Lucchesi (3-0, 2.88) for the Mets.

If any fan had a ticket for tonight’s game, they will not be able to use it for tomorrow’s doubleheader. However, the Mets are offering a voucher that can be used for any of the remaining four games or a home game in the first two months of next year.

In 2007 and 2008, it was the Marlins who were the spoilers of the Mets playoff hopes. This time around, New York will look to return the favor. Coming into Tuesday’s action, the Marlins were one game behind both the Arizona Diamondbacks and Chicago Cubs for one of the two remaining National League wild card spots.
