Anthony Dicomo of MLB.com reports that Jed Lowrie is flying to Port St.Lucie today to start participating in live batting practice.
Lowrie, who turns 35 today actually, has been recovering from a sprained left knee he suffered during Spring Training practices that forced him to not play in any Grapefruit League games.
Dicomo notes that Lowrie is still has a little more progress to be made before he would be ready to start a rehab assignment.
The Mets signed Lowrie this offseason to a two-year, $20 million contract with the hopes of him playing every day with most of his appearances likely coming at third base.
