Brandon Nimmo is not in the lineup for Wednesday’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies after exiting Tuesday night’s game with a neck injury in the first inning.
Nimmo, 26, is expected to return to the lineup on Friday after the team’s off day on Thursday. So far this season, the outfielder is hitting .241/.388/.453 with three home runs and eight RBI in 68 plate appearances. However, that also comes with a league-leading 26 strikeouts (tied with Mitch Haniger and Jorge Soler).
In place of Nimmo, the Mets have Jeff McNeil leading off and playing left field with Keon Broxton in center field and Michael Conforto in right field.
Anthony Dicomo of MLB.com adds that Nimmo’s neck is still very sore and he woke up with little ability to move his neck. He also surmises that Nimmo is almost certainly not going to be available to pinch-hit on Wednesday.
Mickey Callaway intimated that he wasn’t too concerned about the injury as can be seen in the video below.
