It’s been a day full of news regarding the Mets sale. Yesterday, it was reported that Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez’s group was the clear-cut favorite per Bob Nightengale of USA Today. Today, there has been a lot of updates on that piece of reporting.

Scott Soshnick of Sportico made an appearance on WFAN’s mid-day show today (Fast forward to 12 pm to hear the full interview). The run down of the interview was provided by SNY. In it, Soshnick suggested taking the Nightengale report lightly and also said that the bid is Cohen’s to lose.

Joe Pantorno of AMNY.com said that Cohen is still viewed as the favorite despite the report from last night. Pantorno also added:

A source with close knowledge of the situation told amNewYork Metro on Monday morning that there is still robust confidence that Steve Cohen will come away with majority ownership of the team, pending MLB approval.”

Charles Gasparino of Fox Business re-affirmed that Cohen is “100 percent” planning to submit a bid at the end of the month despite many bidders looking at the Mets problematic financials. Earlier this morning, Gasparino also suggested that the Rodriguez-Lopez group might not be in the lead.

Finally, the Thornton McEnery of the NY Post reported that “Steve is committed to seeing this process through for the good of baseball and Mets fans.”

McEnery also reported that there is still bad blood between Jeff Wilpon and Steve Cohen. In the article, McEnery’s source told him:

“He wants A-Rod to come away with the team or make Cohen pay double the nearest offer. This has been a squeeze job for weeks now.”

Another fairly notable piece of information in the article: Josh Harris and David Blitzer are submitting a low-ball bid for the Mets after seeing the Mets financials. It’s essentially a two-player race for the Mets.

While all these pieces of information remains good for Cohen’s chances of buying the Mets, McEnery does caution that Lopez and Rodriguez believe they can offer close to what Cohen can.

The deadline for bids is exactly two weeks from today. A lot more news should be expected to be leaked between then and now. Buckle up, Mets fans.
