New York Mets outfielder Kevin Pillar left Monday night’s game against the Atlanta Braves in the top of the seventh after a scary hit by pitch to the face.

With the bases loaded and two outs, Pillar stepped in against Braves right-hander Jacob Webb. The righty worked the count to 2-2, and then took a 94 MPH offering from Webb square to the face.

Pillar went to the ground, and stayed down for a moment with lots of blood gushing from his face. He quickly returned to his feet, and walked off the field with head athletic trainer Brian Chicklo.

Khalil Lee came in to pinch-run for Pillar, and took over in right-field. The visibly distraught Webb also left the game, replaced by left-hander Sean Newcomb.

The MMO team sends our prayers and best wishes to both Pillar and Webb after such a truly scary moment. We’ll keep you updated when we learn more from Mets manager Luis Rojas following tonight’s game.
