Yes it’s true, the word around those who are close to some Mets insiders, and those who are monitoring every word that K-Rod and his agent say, are all in agreement that the Mets would be a perfect fit for the most sought after closer.

Can lightning strike twice in back to back off seasons for the Mets?

Last season the Mets walked away with the biggest prize in the off season, and while Manny Ramirez might argue that he is the big enchilada this year, most agree it’s Frankie Rodriguez.

Bart Hubbuch of the New York Post writes:

K-Rod’s agent told The Post yesterday that Rodriguez is excited about the Mets and considers them “a good fit” among the four teams supposedly hottest in pursuit of the strikeout artist.

“K-Rod’s pitched in high-pressure games, he’s been in a pretty big market since he was 19 years old and thrives on it,” said agent Paul Kinzer, who wouldn’t name the other three clubs interested in his client. “New York and the Mets are very attractive to him.”

K-Rod’s agent, Paul Kinzer a guest on WFAN said:

“There are three to four teams in the running besides the Mets,” Kinzer said. “It’s a good fit because he likes pitching in the big games on the big stage and you definitely have that in New York.”

This week, Trevor Hoffman joined the list of growing available closers on the market, and yesterday, Bobby Jenks of the Chi Sox was added to that group. The overabundance of quality closers could force K-Rod and the Mets into a shotgun wedding.

It looks like the planets are aligning once again for the Mets who may be poised to make the biggest splash in the off season once again.

At midnight tonight, it’s off to the races!
