According to John Harper of The New York Daily News, the Milwaukee Brewers are “very interested in dealing for” New York Mets starting pitcher, Noah Syndergaard.
Syndergaard, 25, is currently on the 10-day disabled list with a strained finger ligament but has been on a throwing program, working towards a hopeful early-July return.
In 11 starts this season, the right-hander has a 3.06 earned-run average with a 124 ERA+, 2.53 fielding independent pitching rating. and a 5.85 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
The Brewers entered play on Saturday leading the National League Central by 2.5 games over the Cubs and 5.5 games ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals.
Junior Guerra leads Milwaukee’s starters with a 3.05 earned-run average, with Jhoulys Chacin behind him at 3.82.
Chase Anderson, Brent Suter, and Freddy Peralta round out the rest of their rotation, but if they want to make a run at a postseason berth, a front-line starter would be an ideal pickup.
The Brew Crew has a litany of top prospects, which is exactly what it would take to pry a pitcher like Syndergaard, who is 25-years-old and under team control for another three seasons, away from the New York Mets.
Harper lists second baseman Keston Hiura, 22, right-hander Corbin Burnes, 23, and outfielder Corey Ray, also 23, as possible return targets.
Fangraphs had Hiura and Burnes listed as the organization’s top-two prospects heading into the season, with their respective estimated times of arrival set at next season. Ray is not expected to break into the big leagues until 2020.
