Joe Girardi will not return as the New York Yankees manager for the 2018 season according to David Kaplan of NBCS Chicago.

The Yankees released this statement on Girardi not returning to the team.

Girardi, 53, has been the Yankees manager for the past ten seasons going 910-710 (.562%) in the regular season and 28-24 (.538%) in the postseason.

The Yankees made a somehwat surprising playoff run this season that ended in Game 7 against the Houston Astros in the American League Championship Series.

The former big league catcher signed a four-year extension in 2013 that ran through this season.

Jon Heyman of Fan Rag Sports is reporting there had been tension between Girardi and the front office this season making it seem like this was more of the Yankees decision than Girardi’s.

The Washington Nationals and Philadelphia Phillies are still looking for a manager.
