The New York Mets announced that right-handed reliever Jeurys Familia will be in the clubhouse today and will be activated for tomorrow’s game in Washington, D.C. against the Nationals.
Familia finished his final test on Wednesday night when he threw a scoreless inning for the Brooklyn Cyclones on the back-end off pitching on two consecutive days. Familia has thrown four scoreless rehab innings with five strikeouts.
Tests in early May revealed a blood clot in Familia’s right shoulder, which has kept him off a big league mound since May 10. In 9.1 innings with the Mets this season, he has a 3.86 ERA, 10 strikeouts, and eight walks.

Pitching for the Brooklyn Cyclones, closer Jeurys Familia pitched a scoreless inning with one strikeout Wednesday night. This was the second night in a row he pitched, throwing a 1-2-3 inning on Tuesday.
He has appeared in five rehab games, pitching one inning each game and not allowing a run. In fact, he’s only allowed one hit and two walks while striking out six.
After appearing in back-to-back games and pitching well in both, few reasons remain if any to keep him in the minor leagues. Once he is called up, the bullpen suddenly looks very good on paper as he would join AJ Ramos, Jerry Blevins, Paul Sewald and others.
