With Tuesday’s outing against the Marlins, Mets reliever Jeurys Familia has documented three innings pitched with no earned runs for the beginning of spring training.

Familia, 30, faced three hitters on Tuesday and gave up no hits, no walks and struck out one batter (Isan Diaz). He got a flyout from Matt Kemp and a groundout from Harold Ramirez as well.

After losing 30 pounds in the off-season, Familia is looking strong and holding a 0.00 ERA and 1.333 WHIP after three appearances in spring training thus far. He’s allowed two hits and two walks while he’s struck out two batters.

The right-hander had a terrible season in his return to the team in 2019 as he registered a 5.70 ERA, 4.88 FIP, and 1.733 WHIP with 9.5 K/9 as compared to 6.3 BB/9.

In his first stint with the team, Familia registered a 2.63 ERA, 2.99 FIP, and 1.208 WHIP with 9.2 K/9 as compared to 3.7 BB/9.

Familia and the Mets will certainly hope he can return to those numbers for the last two years of the three-year, $30 million contract he signed before the 2019 season.
