Mets GM Brodie Van Wagenen tweeted out a congratulatory picture of Carlos Beltrán signing his contract to be manager of the Mets. The problem was that the photo also included a notebook with the name Jerry Narron on it (unearthed by our own Jacob Resnick).

Brodie would delete the original tweet and send it again after cropping the paper with Narron’s name out of it.

Tim Healey of Newsday confirms the that Narron is indeed a candidate to become the bench coach for Beltran.

However, Narron was unaware of his candidacy until today according to Ken Davidoff of the New York Post. Narron says he has yet to hear from the Mets regarding the position.

Narron, 63, recently stepped down as the bench coach of the Arizona Diamondbacks. He had been with the team for the last three seasons. The previous five seasons he served as the bench coach for the Brewers, Mets assistant GM Adam Guttridge was with Milwaukee during that period as well.

The former sixth round pick was the manager of the Reds for three seasons after serving as their bench coach in 2004 and 2005. Narron also spent nine seasons in the Texas Rangers organization with two of them coming as a manager. During his first two years with the Rangers in 1995 and 1996, current Mets special assistant to the GM, Omar Minaya, was a scout for the Rangers during that same time.

Terry Collins, former Mets manager and current special assistant to the GM, is another candidate for the job. Beltran has said numerous times that Collins was his favorite manager when he played, and also pitched him as his bench coach when interviewing for the Mets managerial position and previously with the Yankees.

It’s still unknown what the rest of the coaching staff will like with all their contracts running out at the end of the 2019 season. Van Wagenen did say on Monday that Beltran will absolutely have say in the coaches he works with.
