With Steve Cohen’s Mets ownership coming closer and closer with all the MLB owners voting next week, Jeff Wilpon held a Zoom call on Monday with Mets employees.

Was it a farewell call? Not officially. But at least one person on the call said it “definitely was a goodbye” according to Sportico Editor-in-Chief Scott Soshnick.

During the video call, Wilpon spoke about the Mets highs of recent years, including building Citi Field and the 2015 World Series run. He also did acknowledge the lows, such as not winning.

As the call was with all Mets employees, Wilpon gave special recognition to those who had been with the organization for many years. Jay Horwitz in particular was one of the longtime employees who was shown gratitude, according to Marc Carig of The Athletic.

The call may have been a short one, only about 15-20 minutes, but its significance is evident — we are officially in the midst of the final chapter of the Wilpon era.
