Jeff McNeil spoke to reporters Wednesday and said that he “feel(s) good.” This was after he fielded grounders at second base and took batting practice before the second game of a three-game series against the Cleveland Indians.

On Tuesday, McNeil ran around the bases, as detailed by Tim Healey of Newsday.

McNeil, 27, went on the 10-day IL last Wednesday (August 14) with a low-grade hamstring strain that was not expected to sideline him for very long.

In his absence, the Mets decided to select Ruben Tejada from Triple-A Syracuse who has been relegated to mostly a utility infielder role and has yet to record his first hit in a Mets uniform since 2015.

Through 105 games this season, McNeil has hit .332/.400/.529 with 15 home runs and 55 RBI to give himself a 147 OPS+ and 4.4 bWAR.

Joe Panik has taken up most of the playing time at second base while Juan Lagares has played center field in every game since McNeil went down.
