Jacob deGrom was originally scheduled to make a simulated start in Port St. Lucie Tuesday afternoon.

That start never ended up happening after Jacob deGrom experienced “mild muscle soreness” in his shoulder, the Mets say. His sim start has been pushed to Thursday “out of an abundance of caution.”

The team says deGrom played catch on Monday and Tuesday “without issue.”

DeGrom has been working his way back from suffering a stress reaction in his scapula at the end of spring training. The 34-year-old most recently made a rehab start Thursday in Syracuse. He pitched four innings on 42 pitches, reaching 98-100 mph on his fastball. He had two previous rehab starts of two and three innings without any issue, too.

If he does make a simulated start on Thursday, it’s unclear if he’d need another rehab start before joining the major-league club. If not, he could rejoin the team July 27 vs. the Yankees or June 29 in Miami.

He hasn’t pitched in an MLB game since July 7, 2021.

While the latest deGrom injury news doesn’t seem awfully serious, Mets fans would be reasonable to take this news with an ounce of speculation. We’ll have to wait for Thursday to come and go before we see how serious the news actually is.
