Jacob deGrom was in Cy Young form on Monday night when he struck out 11 Diamondbacks’ hitters in seven innings of one-run ball. His only blemish on the night was giving up a solo homer to former Met Wilmer Flores.

DeGrom, making a late push to repeat as the NL’s best pitcher, allowed only three hits and a walk in his seven innings of work. The right-hander lowered his season ERA to 2.70, that ranks fourth in the National League. His current 5.9 fWAR ranks him second in the NL behind only Max Scherzer‘s 6.2 fWAR.

One of the most impressive parts of the night for deGrom was him striking out Ketel Marte all three times he faced him, and making him look silly. Marte is having a breakout season (6.8 fWAR, .328/.387/.595) for Arizona.

DeGrom has now allowed one or no runs in 77 of his 168 major league starts, that is the most since at least 1908. He also had his ninth double-digit strikeout game of the season and 41st of his career. Nolan Ryan, with 43, is the only pitcher with more double digit strikeout games through the first 168 games of a career.
