The Brooklyn Cyclones lost on Monday to the Lowell Spinners 3-1 at MCU Park to force a winner-take-all game on Tuesday night for the New York-Penn League Championship.

All the scoring came in the second inning when the Spinners put three on the board against Cyclones starter Frank Valentino. The Cyclones answered back with one run thanks to a Ranfy Adon RBI single.

First baseman Joe Genord led off the bottom of the ninth with single but was thrown out at second trying to stretch it to a double. The Cyclones went 1-for-5 with runners in scoring position and struck out 12 times in the game. Genord led the team with three hits and scored the only Cyclones run.

Mets 2019 first rounder Brett Baty went 1-for-3 with a double and walk. He also had two hits in the first game of the NYPL finals.

Valentino allowed three runs (two earned in 4 1/3 innings on five hits, two walks, and five strike outs. Right-hander Corey Gaconi followed with 2 2/3 perfect innings with four strikeouts. Right-handers Josh Hejka and Hunter Parsons each threw a scoreless inning for the Cyclones as well.

The Cyclones will host the Spinners tonight at MCU with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Brooklyn manager Edgardo Alfonzo told our own Josh Finkelstein that Nathan Jones will get the start for the Cyclones while 2019 third rounder Matthew Allan will likely follow him.
